About

I’ve had my own website since 1996; the Dark Ages, before Google. What started as a fairly rudimentary, single page, grew into quite an elaborate affair — using everything from ASP (before .net), JavaScript, PHP and even C — going through several of my own domains. However, by the early-2000s, I had better things to do with my time than tackle cross-browser DOM incompatibilities and maintain (or even produce) tenable content. This was also the time when everyone was becoming a self-proclaimed “web developer” or “web designer”, at various levels of competence, with their Dreamweaver and Photoshop abuse! To this end, I went into semi-retirement from the web game, leaving my domains to gather electronic dust.

Nowadays, of course, things have developed and stabilised, somewhat. We have frameworks and standards which are (mostly) respected; APIs and mature CMSes; interoperability and all kinds of nifty services. It’s a great time for content, leaving the coding to those who have the time.

As such, I’ve resurrected my web presence in the form of a blog. Something I used to have a long time ago — when they were still called “weblogs” and had to be programmed manually — but today I’m going for content and have put my eggs in the WordPress basket. Moreover, rather than being personal — although I may digress, sometimes — it will largely serve as a showcase for my intellectual pursuits and projects; sharing my passions.

Vain, I know, but at least I’m honest about it! Furthermore, as I find it so difficult to communicate normally, this affords me an outlet to express myself; everyone wants to be represented, after all. This is my voice.

I hope I can interest you with something.
